Jaw bumps are bony swellings which usually form on the lower jaw. In some cases they can appear in the upper jaw too and are formed during the development phase of the teeth.
It is sometimes the case that a horse's milk teeth (or Caps) do not shed as they are supposed to. When this happens it hinders the eruption of the permanent teeth, pushing up from below. This can put a lot of downwards pressure on the lower jaw bone and cause localised swelling in the area of the tooth root (apex).

Problems during development can also cause sinus problems and nasal discharge.
